15 Natural Remedies for Heartburn & Severe Acid Reflux


Heartburn is not an easy case that old ones experience. So what is heartburn? It is the pain which is like a burning sensation located behind the breastbone and the pain goes into the throat. This is one of the symptoms of heartburn. What is the cause of this heartburn? Specifically, it is because of acid reflux.

The other question is why acid reflux occurs? It is when the food allowed by the ring of muscle enters into the stomach – which is called the esophageal sphincter, or LES – stay when it shouldn’t. It will really cause pain when the throat is being burned by the acid coming from the stomach that creeps back to the esophagus. That is the cause of the heartburn sensation.

When you have heartburn, then you originally have acid reflux. Heartburn is something to cure because it is one of the effects of reflux that causes severe pain. True, there are several and variety of medication prescribed by the doctor, and there are lots of drug store to ease the pain of heartburn, but most of the medicines only ease the pain and not really curing where it originally occurred. You don’t have to tolerate the pain you’ve been going through. You need to change your lifestyle and you may take the remedies I will show you.

  1. One tablespoon of baking soda.

Baking soda has a pH more than 7.0that helps the stomach acid neutralize. It is one of the good remedies for it is called as sodium bicarbonate which is a base substance that helps your reflux and resulting to help your heartburn in return. To avoid and to cure gnawing, burning, and sensation of heartburn, sodium bicarbonate is a good solution. You will not feel the burning sensation once you perform or try this remedy.

One tablespoon of baking soda

What you need:

  • 1/2 teaspoon or 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • a glass of fresh water

Instructions:

Get less than 8 ounces of water and mix in ½ teaspoon or single teaspoon of baking soda. Stir well and make sure to drink it fully. Repeat this procedure until needed but be cautious that taking the mixture should not exceed into ½ teaspoon doses in 24 hours. Baking soda is a good remedy but too much taking it has bad side effects like swelling or nausea because it has high salt content.

  1. Drink aloe juice to soothe your stomach.

Aloe is well-known to avoid and cure sunburn, but it is more than that for it also helps to soothe and ease the pain caused by heartburn. It reduces the heartburn inflammation. When you feel the burning sensation, start to drink the aloe juice right away to help you ease the pain.

  • 1/2 cup aloe Vera juice

Instructions:

Before proceeding, let me tell you that aloe Vera has a laxative component that makes you go to the bathroom few times a day, so if you don’t want this thing to happen, you can look for aloe Vera product that does not have laxative component. Drink ½ cup of aloe juice that may be taken from cool place or in room temperature. Either way will do.

  1. Chew gum.

According to the study of “The Journal of Dental Research”, chewing a gum can help to ease the pain of those who have gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD), or chronic heartburn after conducting experiment from the people who have the said disease. Why is it chewing a gum is good remedy? The reason is because of the saliva stimulated by the chewing gum that makes more flow through of saliva into the gut that makes the acid diluted and washed away. The GERD symptoms will likely to be improved because of the clearance of acid.

  • 1 piece of sugar-free gum

Instructions:

Chew a gum for 30 minutes after a meal.

  1. Chin up or elevate your head when you go to sleep.

Because of the fact that heartburn becomes worse in the night, following this instruction is helpful. When you go to sleep, elevate your head up to 6 inches by putting book under the legs at the head of your bed. Also, lying down right after eating is bad practice and may worsen your heartburn. Lie down after 3-4 hours of eating.

  1. How, what, and when (you eat)

How you eat: When eating, take smaller bites and make sure to chew it slowly so the stomach will not be tired out digesting the food that you intake to avoid more excess acid.

What you eat: Avoid foods that are high in acid like tomatoes, citrus fruits, or spicy foods.

When you eat: Eat 3-4 hours ahead of time before you sleep to avoid more pressure on LES and more accumulation of acid.

  1. Get more acid by using apple cider vinegar.

It seems contrary to the case we cure, but the fact is ingesting more acid will avoid acid reflux. The acid tells the LES to tighten and close off. Producing more acid will help LES to stop from producing more acid. If you think that this is your case, follow the instruction we are going to show.

  • 3 teaspoons or 1 tablespoon of raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar
  • 6 to 8 ounces of fresh water

Instructions:

In a 6 or 8 ounces of water, pour in 3 teaspoon or 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, then drink. Drink this mixture before each meal or before bed time. If the case is it gets worsen your acid reflux, stop to ingest it.

  1. Eat a banana or an apple

Try on letting few bananas from your home to ripen up and eat banana at one times a day. Before bedtime and when feeling discomfort, slice the banana and it in a couple of hours.

Eat fresh gingerroot tea 20 minutes before meals to ease pain caused by acid reflux.

Prepare a gingerroot by slicing one into 3 quarter sliced pieces. After simmering it into 2 cups of water, leave it for 30 minutes. 20 minutes before meal, pour it into your glass and drink.

  1. Study your lifestyle and why you have acid reflux.

You may perform different remedies and variety of medicines but the acid reflux hard to get away. Keep a note for yourself to learn what triggers your acid reflux. Keep a note about what you eat, when heartburn symptoms occur, and what you wear that causes you the burning sensation.

  1. Avoid tight fitting clothes

Super tight jeans and other clothes may trigger more your acid reflux because when sitting down, the waistband is going to sink into your abdomen region. Avoid tight-fitting clothes and even tight belts because these things put extra pressure to the LES part.

  1. Smoking and drinking is a big NO.

This is the worst thing to trigger your acid reflux. If you are a smoker or alcohol drinker, then you are weakening your LES and making it easier to produce more acid that goes into your esophagus. Your stomach is in danger if you are alcohol lover. The solution is to stop smoking by lessening your cigarette day by day and lessen your alcohol or if possible, you can stop drinking.

  1. Maintain a healthy weight

Heartburn is more triggered when you are overweight. Unhealthy weight may cause occasional heartburn and increases the risk of heartburn. The unnecessary weight will add pressure to the LES.

  1. Mustard.

After every meal munch 3-4 pieces of almond. But also keep in mind to eat almond in moderation because some found that almonds may also trigger heartburn.

To reduce the inflammation in your stomach, drink chamomile tea every ½-1 hour before you sleep. It will help you to relieve stress and balance your acidity level. It also helps you to have sound sleep.

  • 1 teaspoon dried chamomile flower petals
  • Strainer
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • Honey or lemon (optional)

Instructions:

Pour one cup of water in a cooking pot and let it boil. When it starts to boil, stir in dried chamomile petals and let it simmer for 45 seconds. After cooking, remove from heat and soak the petal for another 1-2 minutes. Pour the tea into the mug and you can also put honey or lemon to improve the taste.

Heartburn causes severe pain and feels like there is a flame behind your breastbones through your throat. The medications may help to ease and soothe your pain but the fact is, it can also trigger some side-effects and makes you dependent on medicines even not necessary for your acid reflux.
